Shoot for the Head

I can't take credit for this line, but the cool phrase instantly planted seeds of creativity for a worn out, faded, 70s b-movie zombie poster with a fun twist. I mean hey, we all have an ex or two we'd love to see turned into the walking dead. aaand maybe vice versa. enjoy!

like a box o' gremlins

the advertising agency I work at has an area known only to inner-office reference as "the pit". we're a feisty bunch constantly pining for the upper echelon creatives to throw us a bone. I thought the symbolism here was adequate. enjoy.

Ghouly goofballs

these two guys look like the buyer's choice version of statler and waldorf. y'know, if there was an afterlife for muppets.
I had never done an actual puppet maquette before so this was truly a test of my creativity. not bad for a first timer. it was a lot of fun figuring out how to make them seem alive with mannerisms, expressions, color and wardrobe.
these two goofy ghouls will be filmed riding the metro rail system all around greater los angeles. sort of like an ambient 3D version of the hitchhikers in the haunted mansion. spooky right?

GB 3

recently I became part of a team that is devising some fresh new advertising ideas utilizing new technology. I'll spare the details as it's still a secret, but will dribble this for now: it's the third movie of a franchise that deals with ghosts and a company that captures and/or "busts" them. yeah you're stumped.anyhoo, the stuff we're doing is REALLY cool.
here are some concept sketches for the ghosts. not sure if they'll be used yet or not, but figured since I hadn't posted any artwork in a while, you could feast on these...

Sacred Grounds. It's a pun. Get it?

as most of you know who stay more current than myself on this blog, halloween is a personal favorite time of year. ghoulish creativity seems to ooze daily from october's pus filled pores. I absolutely love seeing all the cool costumes and decorations people come up with to scare the snot out of little cherubs or make immature adults squeal in delight.
though we're still a few weeks out, I can't help but get all excited. so to get you kids in the holiday spirit, here is a li'l movie poster, which, if made and released, would be like what a christmas story was for that "other" holiday.
the premise:
college freshman, kevin mcweeney, took a summer job at a new coffee shop that opened down the street. what no one knew was that the coffee shop was built over...(dun dun duuun) an indian burial ground! awakened from their eternal dirt nap, the angry spirits were appeased by kevin's talent at making a truly fantastic cup o'joe. once they got a taste, a plan was formed to steal kevin's soul to the spirit world on halloween eve and serve as a barista minion...FOREVER (echoe).
okay, so it's a little campy and ridiculous, but everybody loves coffee right? and everyone loves indians. a perfect blend of entertainment and marketing!
concepted and designed by yours truly and shot by the ever talented lena abujbara (www.flickr.com/lenabujbara), the full campaign can be seen at www.tylerwyler.com.

Henckels you cheap SOB

sometimes when I'm lying in bed at night I oft find myself pondering many a subject. some examples are - do aliens, in all their super galactic, dimensional shifting technology, just end up looking through the roofs of houses to watch people masturbate? why didn't God just give women the same ability to grasp both reality and logic at the same time? was it a cruel trick? does God laugh heartily for hours on end from his poofy cloud sofa at my feeble attempts to comprehend? why is the hair on my head now moving to my ears?
and from this random neural jargon I find myself coming up with random ad jargon. if you care to see the full extent, check out: www.tylerwyler.com.

but for now, here is a funny/stupid concept that unfortunately only made it to the cutting room floor. God, I hope you're laughing.

The Crying Monkey Toy Company

A little background on where the idea for Betty Blubbles gestated.
~ T

Out n' about with Betty

Ever since Betty hit the shelves she's been spotted all over LA. Some nameless paparazzi sent these in. Thanks Dwayne and Kevin! Betty's click is never-ending so friend her on Facebook today!

Blubbles prototype

Ahoy kiddies! Here's a rough prototype of Bathtime with Betty Blubbles. The final will go through a process called "rotocasting", which is where vinyl rubber is injected into the mold and spun until cured. This is the rubber duck effect, which makes it hollow inside and floatable. I also threw in a pic of the package design. Again, still prototype. Will follow up with her FB page and the company that created Betty Blubbles. For now...enjoy!

PARADOX album cover

A redesign of album art for the band Paradox. For those not in the know with Paradox get on board people! Or don't. They're from the 70's and not at the top of my playlist either, but it's a cool name and was fun to come up with concepts. The gallows is made of balsa wood and stands 18" high. All about perspective! Can you figure out WHY these are paradox...doxes,doxees, doxisms?? Whatever. Email me if you can't stand it.

Bathtime with Blubbles

Brand Monkey is a class about branding and how to visualize an idea/image in your head and take it to reality. After playing around with several decent concepts (manly chapstick that doesn't look like lipstick, chopsticks with printed fortunes) I created
"BATHTIME WITH BETTY BLUBBLES"
That's right kiddies, now you can enjoy a rubber bath toy from childhood with an (albeit slightly immature) adult theme! Betty is curvy, sexy, and of course bubbly. She's also ergonomically floatable (fat is actually lighter and more buoyant than muscle. who knew!) and she'll make bathtime fun for everyone!
I had no idea how much of an undertaking this project would be. First there was research, then numerous concept drawing. After many critiques and advise from instructors I settled on the one you see below. Next was package design (in progress) and finally the act of sculpting a prototype to later be cast in resin. I've been watching videos on creature sculpting and reading anatomy books. Although she's a very cartoony character, it's important to convey a hint of realistic proportion. Once the head is complete I'll post the entire image to view. Then it's off to China for a process called Rotocasting, which creates the final form. Be prepared for Betty Blubbles in all her rubbery beauty!

Sea Slime?

Last term I did a piece for a design class and it was requested to show in the campus gallery. The gallery is seen by many both famous and well, in-famous. Anyway, rather impressive for an advertising major I thought! Gouache on 12"x12" illustration board and took roughly 13 hours to complete. Tedious but very fun. Enjoy "Carbonated Sea Slime"

Tread lightly...

This is a great piece with lots of potential but just can't find enough time anymore to sit down and work on fun projects all my own. If you scroll back through past postings you'll notice the sleeping buffalo are actually from a freehand drawing I completed in an hour for a western art auction. The full vision was just as you see here. In harsh winters, desperate wolves sometimes enter buffalo herds and steal young calves right out from under their sleeping mothers. These guys are in definitely walking a thin line.
If all goes as planned I'll have 'er done in another six months! Enjoy,
~ T

New fun year, new fun stuff

Happy new year!
It's been far too long but I've not forgotten you kiddies. So...what has Mr. Jensen's eccentric little mind been up to in the midst of his inexcusable absence? Well lemme tell ya - Redid the blog layout as it needed an update in design/color/whathaveyou. Hope you like. Art Directed an advertising campaign for Whirly Pops. And what are Whirly Pops you ask? If you've been to Disneyland in the last fifty years Whirly Pops are the ginormous suckers you buy that take 12 hours to eat. We had to research the product, devise a campaign and execute it across print, web and television. A fun project to be a part of for sure as not only did we tour the secret LA facility where Whirly Pops are created, but we got to eat a ton of free candy in the process! Ahh the perks of the biz. The print concepts mirrored famous artist styles, in this case Van Gogh and Warhol.
To accompany our Whirly "Pop Art" we shot the commercial in a live gallery in Pasadena. I ended up playing the part of Harold the stodgy art buyer (along with a rather beautiful costar). Behind us you can just make out a fully painted Whirly Pop.
Got some more visual enjoyment comin' atcha so be back soon! ~ T
